Ministering the Eucharist is more than distributing Holy Communion at Mass, to the homebound, or at a nursing home. The ministry requires us to be Christ-like, so that Christ may touch those to whom we minister. There is spirituality appropriate to this ministry, rooted in an understanding of the mystery of the Eucharist. The ministry of bringing the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ to our parish community at the celebration of the Eucharist and to those who are confined to their homes or to nursing homes is a beautiful and rewarding ministry. Dedication, reflection, prayer, and discernment are necessary for sustaining a life of generous service to God's people both inside and outside the Liturgy. Ministers must be long-standing, confirmed in the Catholic faith, active, practicing Catholics who are registered members of St. Matthew parish. We invite those who feel the call to minister to God's people to contact us. Call the parish office at (727) 393-1288 to express an interest in this ministry.

"In the beginning was the Word, And the Word was with God,
And the Word was God."
“The Word of the Lord.” - these five words tell us a lot about the Ministry of the Word. Readers bring the living Word of God to the liturgical assembly.
Becoming a Reader requires an interest/experience in public speaking, a desire to grow in faith, commitment to prior preparation of readings, and arriving early at Mass. Our Reader Ministry is made up of a broad cross-section of parishioners. We are young and old, men and women, all dedicated to proclaiming God's Word.
We, as Ministers of the Holy Word, look upon what we do as an occasion to awaken faith in the Christian community assembled for worship. Readers minister at all the weekend and weekday Liturgies. This ministry is open to all confirmed persons of faith who possess the skills necessary for the effective proclamation of God's Word. Training is available for all those who are interested. Call the parish office at (727) 393-1288 to express an interest in this ministry.
