Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

em pixMinistering the Eucharist is more that distributing Holy Communion at Mass, to the homebound, or at a nursing home. The ministry requires us to be Christ-like, so that Christ may touch those to whom we minister. There is spirituality appropriate to this ministry, rooted in an understanding of the mystery of the Eucharist. The ministry of bringing the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ to our parish community at the celebration of the Eucharist and to those who are confined to their homes or to nursing homes is a beautiful and rewarding ministry.  Dedication, reflection, prayer and discernment are necessary for sustaining a life of generous service to God's people both inside and outside the Liturgy. Ministers must be long-standing, confirmed in the Catholic faith, active, practicing Catholics who are registered members of St. Matthew parish. An invitation is extended to those who feel the call to minister to God's people. Call Donna Day at 727-393-1288 to express an interest in this ministry.

Parishioners may not take Holy Communion to someone on their own without the necessary Safe Environment Training. This is not a ministry where you just go out on your own, there needs to be appropriate channels followed to take care of our parishioners.
